Sara’s story
Sara moved into Treasures Foundation in July 2017, referred from Send Prison following
completion of the RAPt programme. She is still a part of Treasures Foundation, living in
one of the settled independent flats that she was nominated for.
Prior to this Sara had been homeless rough sleeping for years with a history of going in and out
of prison. She had lost contact with her children for 15 years, who were placed in care, and
had no family in her life, due to her chaotic lifestyle. Treasures Foundation was her first
home in a very long time. When Sara moved in she was very frightened, lost, and full of fear
following her previous lifestyle. It took some time to build up trust, and to start to believe in
herself and develop her self-esteem and self-worth.
Sara has sustained her accommodation and independent living whilst at Treasures
Foundation and completed all her programmes which included 1NE and 12 Steps recovery for 1
year and 18 months groupwork therapy, which has assisted her to heal and develop her confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. She has not relapsed to use substances since living at Treasures Foundation, or become homeless or been in prison again. She has contact with and rebuilt relationships with 3 of her children and her family when she was 4 years into her recovery, and is now in the 6th year of her recovery. She is now a Grandmother and is an important part of her Grandchildren’s lives.
